The application documents aren't even prepared yet. But Ray and Associates already has posted a brief ad on its website letting interested candidates know that the top education job in Florida is open.

Among the few details available are the pay rate $195,416 to $283,310 (negotiable), depending on experience and the deadline of May 25 to apply.

The firm's contract with the State Board of Education says it will provide weekly updates on its progress. As with the state's last commissioner search, the Gradebook will work to also keep you informed who the candidates are and other events in the process. 

If all goes as planned, a new commissioner should be on board by the time Eric J. Smith departs in June. Stay tuned.
